$26,500 MPF boon for workers

<p>Each of the 2.84 million registered mandatory provident fund contributors saw HK$26,507 in paper earnings on average in the first half.</p><p>That&#39;s an accumulative return rate of 8.43 percent, according to Refinitiv&#39;s Lipper Hong Kong.</p><p>Based on the HK$893.3 billion net assets in MPF schemes and 4.2 million MPF contributors overall as of the end of March, each investor&#39;s paper gain was HK$17,930.</p><p>US equity funds were the top performers at 17.92 percent, followed by European equities with a 13.61 percent return rate.</p><p>Hong Kong equity funds rose 11.7 percent while Chinese equities advanced 9.34 percent. Global equity funds rose 12.48 percent.</p><p>South Korean equities were the worst performers, recording a loss of 0.93 percent, while the Hong Kong dollar money market saw a 0.55 percent increase for MPF investors.</p><p>Global bonds saw a 4.04 percent rise.</p><p>June was the best performing month since January with a return rate of 3.81 percent for the 416 MPF funds in the market. All asset classes gained and stocks outperformed.</p><p>Mainland stock equity funds were the best category with a return rate of 6.39 percent, followed by Hong Kong stock equity funds at 6.33 percent return and Greater China equity funds with 6.12 percent return rate. Hong Kong dollar money market funds were the worst with only 0.13 percent increase. Global equity funds rose 5.54 percent for the single June.</p><p>Global bonds category saw only 1.47 percent growth in June.</p><p>May was the only month in the red during the first half year.</p>
